5 Fun Kid Activities While Boating on Lake Norman
A day on Lake Norman can be fun all on its own! Personally, we could just float in the lake waters all day with a great group of family and friends.
But if you have children on board with you, sometimes they need just a little bit more entertainment. But never fear, we have several ideas to keep your little ones entertained while cruising the Lake Norman waters.
This is an activity that can keep children entertained all day on the boat. All you need is a big tube and some rope (don’t forget the rope because without that then you’re just floating in the water).
Westport Marina makes it easy for you to take part in this activity! Our Marina Store has a bunch of tubes to choose from and we can even provide you with a tube rental for the water.
Also, don’t forget to wear a life vest while riding on the tube. Safety first!
#2: Bring a Fishing Rod
Nothing is better than keeping it “reel” at the lake!
If you want to get the kids out of the water a little bit, have them relax with a fishing pole in their hands. The Lake Norman waters are filled with spotted bass, hybrid striped bass, and catfish! It will also make for a good picture if they get one on their line.
It’s important to note that anyone 16 years or older must have a North Carolina fishing license. There are a number of ways to get a license which include going to the North Carolina Wildlife website or go to a Gander Mountain, Dicks, Walmart or bait and tackle shops around the lake.
#3: Boat Picnic
Bust out the red and white checkered blanket and lay it out on the floor of one of our pontoon boats and have a nice little picnic to give the kids a rest from the water.
And if you want to get out of the sun for a little bit while you eat, just pull the bimini top to create a nice shaded space for your crew.
Once the kids are done, they can head back into the waters. But of course, wait 30 minutes to an hour before swimming… that’s the Golden Swimming Rule!
#4: Floating Cornhole Game
Yes, there is such a thing!
#5: Have a Scavenger Hunt
Create a list of things you may see at the lake like “No Wake” sign, a person who is wakeboarding or a boat with a silly name and turn it into a scavenger hunt.
It will give you and your family a chance to explore Lake Norman and maybe find some new spots that you’ve never been to before!
If need a few ideas for coves to explore in Lake Norman, just ask any of our amazing employees on the dock who will be more than happy to tell you about their favorite spots on the lake.
When you come to Westport Marina, be sure to stop by our Marina Store where you’ll find a variety of water toys that will add to what will be an already awesome day on the lake!
