Lake Norman Turns 50!

Come join us at the Lake Norman 50 Year Festival this Saturday, June 22!

Our beautiful Lake Norman is officially over the hill! What better way to celebrate the waters that have provided us with years of fun, great memories and relaxing getaways than with the “Lake Norman 50 Year Festival?” The flooding waters of the Catawba River that filled the 32,510-acre impoundment, which is now Lake Norman, have changed Mooresville and the surrounding region forever.

On Saturday, June 22 from 2 to 11p.m., everyone is welcome to this free family event at Queen’s Landing, Highway 150 Mooresville, NC. During this festival we will be combining fun and education to celebrate the past, present and future of Lake Norman. Festival goers can expect great entertainment featuring a blessing of the lake, games and live music.

“This is a great chance for attendees to meet the people and organizations that are protecting our precious lake, so that we can make sure it will be around for another 50 years,” says Lowry Hobbs of Westport Marina. “We are so proud to be sponsoring this event for the lake that has been our marina home for almost 30 years now.”We will be coming together to celebrate 50 years of our great Lake Norman this Saturday at Queen's Landing!

The festival’s schedule is packed with a great lineup of live music. At 2 p.m. you can catch live Christian music by The Gospelaires and Jonathan Dale. Later, bands like Sonny Skyzz and the Rainmakers, Donna Duncan Band and The Red Dirt Revelators keep the positive vibrations going. The atmosphere will be upbeat, informative and fun!

This festival will help recognize just how much Lake Norman has brought to the area. What were once waterfront cabins have turned into thousands of permanent homes. Surrounding cities have experienced booming advantages from more traffic through their areas, and the recreation and tourism industries in the area have undergone tremendous improvements. All are welcomed to this informative, fun event where we will cover the past, present and future of our great lake.

“This fresh water lake has been an absolute blessing to this area since 1963, and it’s our job as a community to protect it and keep it clean,” states Hobbs. “A major part of our contribution to this event is to make sure Lake Norman stays clean and safe for everyone for years to come.”
